Summer with Kangaroos (10.30 – 12.45)

May 23, 2012

Kangaroo playgroup runs all through the year, but we are just coming into the sunny season, with a gorgeous day expected tomorrow. We are celebrating the start of the Summer with a new programme of activities and discussion topics at Kangaroo – all of them on a natural and attachment parenting theme. We will also have new opening times of 10.30 – 12.45. Most families bring a picnic lunch to have around 12pm.

Each week we will try to have a different topic, which will centre around the sandpit area from around 11am. With traditional Kangaroo style, we will keep things fluid and just follow the interest of the adults, and kids! Children and parents don’t have to join in with the discussions or activities, free play will continue throughout.

As you may know if you’ve been before, we don’t have many toys at Kangaroo. We find that this set up is great for encouraging the children to respond imaginatively to the garden, which is rich in natural playthings. It also encourages positive interaction between the children, who don’t have to compete for ride on tractors.

Kangaroo is also now going to host the Oxford nappy free baby group, held once a month, now the last wednesday in the month. Details on the oxfordnappyfree website.

We have started organising low key gardening projects for the children. Last week they sowed peas, and this week it will be carrots. Another idea would be to set up water play. Don’t forget your spare clothes! Other activity and topic ideas always welcomed.

We hope that Kangaroos will become a great resource for Oxfordshire attached parents!

You can check for announcements on the oxfordattachmentparenting@yahoo.com group, but recently the regulars have been there every week come rain or shine!

Follow your child, not the book

July 9, 2009

Kangaroo Playgroup is a social group for mums, dads, other carers and little ones who are interested in or practising natural parenting. It aims to provide a forum to socialise, play and share skills in a friendly and informal setting. Come and learn about natural parenting by watching other parents who are doing it!

We meet up regularly in a variety of venues – details of meetings are discussed on the Oxford Attachment Parenting Yahoo Chatgroup and posted on the website. Where necessary we ask for a contribution towards venue hire costs (usually £1 suggested donation per family).

We’re not all hippies, though some of us have been known to wear sandals or eat the odd lentil. Whether you’re a seasoned natural parent or are just dipping your toe in the water, we’d be glad to welcome you and your little one!
